Mother who tried to sell her 8 month old baby outside WALMART for $25 is jailed for four years

A woman who tried to sell her baby outside a Walmart store is going to prison for four years after she asked a judge to lock her up.

Samantha Tomasini, of Salinas, said that she would probably violate her probation again without jail time.

She was arrested along with her boyfriend Patrick Fousek in June 2010 after witnesses said the couple were offering their baby daughter for $25.

Tomasini pleaded no contest to child endangerment, and she was sentenced to four years’ probation and placed in a rehab programme.

But she was re-arrested last year for violating probation.

The Monterey Herald reported that Judge Pamela Butler sentenced Tomasini on Wednesday after hearing her request for prison time.

Prosecutors say Tomasini and Fousek were regular methamphetamine users and appeared high when they were arrested.

The child, who was eight months old at the time, has since been adopted.

The couple was arrested after Fousek approached two women and asked if they would like to purchase the child for $25.

At first, the women thought he was joking, but when he grew increasingly more persistent, they called the police.

At the time of their arrest, officers said the couple appeared high on methamphetamine and the house was in disarray.

A police report also claimed that Tomasini told Child Protective Services, who took the baby, that she had breast-fed the infant while under the influence of drugs.

The couple now face child endangerment charges and were also booked on charges of being under the influence of narcotics.

Fousek was found guilty of child endangerment last year, and sentenced to six years in prison.
